Apple Store has a Huge Collection of Never Downloaded Apps
Here’s is some news for developers who want to make it to the iOS App Store. Reports from various mobile analytics suggest that over two thirds of the storeĀ consists of “zombie” apps. That means these apps are downloaded by a very few people and provide no revenue to their creators.

While Apple keeps flaunting the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of apps available on the App Store, these reports say that close to 400,000 of them are zombie apps. Majority of these apps do not capture the interest of most users, and it is highly unlikely that they will ever get discovered.
But how do developers make money on the App Store? By the day Apple’s marketplace looks a lot like the traditional software market, in that a few companies with a lot of experience, recognition and marketing money are able to propel their products up into the Top 25. They are usually cost effective as long as they can sit there on the top. There’s also a prosperous market out there for apps that are aimed at specific business verticals rather than aspiring at the general consumer.
However, it is possible for really interesting apps to step out into the public’s view, even though it takes a little luck and a lot of effort to do so. Next time when Apple brags on the number of apps it has on sale, do remember that many of those apps are hardly ever seen at by buyers.
