Sony Tablet S and Tablet P in Japan to Receive Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Next Month

Finally, Sony has announced the release date of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Tablet S and Tablet P. The fact is that this Android 4.0 update will only be available for Sony tablets in Japan. The company’s Japanese division has revealed that the Tablet S and Tablet P users will be receiving the software update by end of April.

Along with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the update pack comes with many new and improved features. One of the interesting features is the new “Recopla” app that let’s the users watch digitally recorded TV programs from Sony’s Blu-ray recorders on the tablets. The update also consists of improved photography capabilities including the activation of the tablets’ cameras from the lock screen mode, edit photos in the gallery and capture panoramic images.

In addition, the update bundle comes with a feature called “Small Apps” that improves multi-tasking functions. With this feature, users can run other applications such as small calculator, remote control, or browser window while running an app.

Earlier, it was informed that the Sony tablets will be getting the Android 4.0 update this spring. Unfortunately, there is no clue whatsoever as to whether the software update will reach the tablets outside Japan in April.

Sony will be also release a Wi-Fi-only version of Tablet P in the Japanese market on April 21. The dual-screen tablet priced at 50,000 yen (around $600) will be available with optional color panels.
