Six Million Android Tablets Currently Rule the Market, Says Andy Rubin
Did you know this? There are six million tablets that run Android OS out there in the markets at the moment! No speculation, this. The figures come straight from the man who heads Android at Google. Andy Rubin says that over 300,000 Android phones are being activated daily in the world. Rubin’s statement at the All Things Digital AsiaD conference, reveals a growth in numbers, compared with the previous estimates.

If you would remember, developer estimates had last week revealed that there were only 3.4 million Honeycomb tablets in the market. This estimate was based on Google’s own Android activation figures and the company’s platform version statements.
That makes it known that more than half of the Android tablets in the market are Honeycomb driven. It is not clear whether Rubin’s estimate counts solely Honeycomb slates or whether it includes tablets that offer Google services that run versions of Android apart from Honeycomb – like original 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Rubin’s six million update , according to him, is a ‘healthy start’. The new version of the OS, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, was launched this week.
Let’s wait to see up to what levels the number grows in the near term. Do you have something to say on that? Don’t hesitate to scribble in your thoughts in the space provided below.
