Weixin/WeChat fans, here’s a good news for you. Tencent’s popular chat app is now being updated to version 4.2. And guess what Weixin is getting this time, video chat.

The new version is only in beta now, but it’s nevertheless exciting. The original Weixin took the Chinese mobile internet by storm, adding more than 100 million users in less than two years.

The new Weixin will be available on the web, though you would need a mobile phone to log in. Currently the web version of  Weixin can only be accessed by scanning a QR code with a Weixin 4.2-installed phone.

Then there’s video chat, plus support for Bluetooth car kit, more powerful security and privacy control. And the UI has been revamped as well.

Now, next.qq.com turns out to be the URL of the Web Weixin. If you are not aware, Tencent was rumored to transform Weixin into the QQ in mobile space. The company was restructured this May, integrating QQ and Qzone into the Social Networking Group, and organizing Weixin into the Corp Development Group.

The URL gives proof that the company is indeed planning to turn Weixin into QQ for mobile.
