Last year was a good one for Evernote, the popular app developer. And we don’t say that based on sales.

The three and a half-year year old company currently have 20 million users and 9,000 apps built on the client in the world. In the past year, the veritable apps ecosystem company has launched five of its own simple and unique Evernote-based applications.

The five Evernote apps are Hello-that helps to remember people, Food-that helps to remember important meals, Skitch-for visual communication, Peek-that uses the iPad cover for a novel take on tutoring, and Clearly-that makes content easier to read within Evernote. The company has a fund of $95.5 million from Sequoia Capital, Troika Dialog, DoCoMo Capital and Morgenthaler Ventures.

The interesting part is that they have been slowly acquiring smaller companies from their talented developer pool. As part of this, Evernote had bought four companies in 2011.

Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote revealed that the company has acquired Skitch, Notable Meals aka Food, Readable that is Clearly, and a startup called Minds Momentum, which will eventually transform into the company’s upcoming To-Do List app. All of the acquisitions were under $10 million in stock and equity.

It is expected that the company’s possession will surely increase in 2012. He reminded that by buying the companies, they are actually giving a start for the people.
