Casino to Open World’s First NFC Supermarket in Paris
In a world of tight competition, supermarkets are ready to go to any extend to lure customers. French supermarket chain Casino has proved that technology can do much more in promoting business.

In a bid to do what they believe in, Casino is all set to open the world’s first NFC-enabled store, in Paris. The store will open NFC tags for 25,000 products.
Each shelf will be equipped with NFC tags, which would allow the customers to add items to their shopping list with just a scan of their smartphone.
Customers will have to tap their phones next to products, which they would want to add to their shopping list and tap their phone at the register before they leave.
These NFC tags will transmit the information of the product into the customers’ phone through a special app, which is designed for the store alone.
The customers can check other data like nutrition value, offers, details of suppliers and pricing details with these NFC tags before adding the products to their shopping cart.
The system will provide the customer to view a total of their bill, eliminating sticker shock at the register and avoiding cashier error.
They can keep a track of their cart so that they can remove or add items to their list as they move by.
Apart from this, Casino is introducing ‘poster stores’ in popular advertising spots inLyon.
Customers can add items to the virtual cart on their phones by scanning NFC tags, QR codes or bar codes on these special posters.
Clearly, this will create a revolution in shopping. Though, it is going to take a while to get there.
